Alcoa annuncia che la sua divisione Alcoa Wheel and Transportation Products (AWTP) presenterà soluzioni per il trasporto sostenibile alla European Green Week 2013, che inizierà oggi a Bruxelles in Belgio. La Green Week è la più grande conferenza europea sull’ambiente che riunisce politici e stakeholder, organizzata annualmente dalla Commissione Europea. L’edizione di quest’anno, intitolata “Aria più pulita per tutti”, è dedicata alla tematica della qualità dell’aria. Leader aziendali, ONG, rappresentanti del governo e funzionari delle Nazioni Unite discuteranno e si lanceranno sfide scambiandosi opportunità e buone prassi per salvaguardare la qualità dell’aria. “Le soluzioni per il trasporto sostenibile Alcoa sottolineano la nostra dedizione alla sostenibilità e all’eccellenza ambientale, aiutandoci inoltre ad offrire tali valori all’industria dei trasporti,” afferma Serge Timmermans, Direttore Commerciale per l’Europa di Alcoa Wheel and Transportation. “Oltre al nostro personale impegno verso la sostenibilità, le ruote in alluminio Alcoa aiutano i nostri clienti a raggiungere i loro obiettivi di sostenibilità rendendo gli autocarri e gli autobus più leggeri così da usare meno carburante e ridurre le emissioni di carbonio. La leggerezza e la robustezza delle ruote Alcoa contribuiscono in maniera significativa a rendere l’industria del trasporto stradale più sostenibile. Le ruote in alluminio forgiato Alcoa pesano in media il 47% in meno rispetto alle ruote in ferro, riducendo il peso complessivo del veicolo fino a 394 kg. I risultati ottenuti da una valutazione inter pares del ciclo di vita (LCA) hanno concluso che la sostenibilità delle ruote in alluminio Alcoa riduce l’impronta di carbonio dei veicoli commerciali. Sostituendo 12 ruote in ferro con ruote in alluminio Alcoa si riducono le emissioni di carbonio di 13,3 tonnellate metriche. Inoltre, lo studio ha evidenziato che l’uso di ruote in alluminio forgiato Alcoa, rispetto alle ruote in ferro, può essere considerato come un investimento attivo ed estremamente efficiente per la riduzione di gas serra nel settore dei veicoli commerciali.
Nel Maggio del 2012, Alcoa ha annunciato che la sua intera linea di ruote in alluminio vanta la certificazione Cradle to CradleCM di livello Silver. Le ruote in alluminio forgiato Alcoa sono i primi prodotti nell’industria del trasporto a ricevere il programma di certificazione Cradle to Cradle che riconosce la responsabilità ambientale di Alcoa nei suoi processi produttivi e la natura infinitamente riciclabile dell’alluminio. Dal settembre del 2012, AWTP ha aderito al Sustainable Development Charter dell’International Association of Public Transport (UITP), associazione dedicata specificatamente ad accrescere la consapevolezza dell’importanza della sostenibilità nel settore dei trasporti.

The lightness and robustness of Alcoa wheels contribute significantly to making the road transport industry more sustainable. Alcoa forged aluminum wheels weigh on average 47% less compared to steel wheels, reducing the overall vehicle weight up to 394 kg. The results of a peer review of the life cycle (LCA) concluded that the sustainability of Alcoa aluminum wheels reduces the carbon footprint of commercial vehicles. By replacing 12 steel wheels with Alcoa aluminum wheels will reduce the carbon emissions of 13.3 metric tons. Furthermore, the study showed that the use of Alcoa forged aluminum wheels, compared to steel wheels, can be considered as an investment active and extremely efficient for the reduction of greenhouse gases in the commercial vehicle sector.
In May of 2012, Alcoa announced that its entire line of aluminum wheels boasts the Cradle to CradleCM certification at the Silver level. Alcoa forged aluminum wheels are the first products in the transportation industry to receive Cradle to Cradle certification program that recognizes environmental responsibility of Alcoa in its production processes and the nature infinitely recyclable aluminum. Since September of 2012, AWTP has joined the Sustainable Development Charter of the International Association of Public Transport (UITP), an association specifically dedicated to increasing awareness of the importance of sustainability in the transport sector.
